Want to get something done? You need principles.

Shifting a system requires bold thinking and decisive action. Once the initial movement has been made to create a new reality, then the hard work begins. As the pieces of an organization slowly fall into place and as people learn new roles and responsibilities the work gets tougher.

It is not enough for people to slide into a new role without having effectively shifted  their mindset. Why is it difficult for people? It may be that they weren’t given the opportunity to voice their opinions during the change process, much less participate in creating the vision for the new organization.

Aside from having a clear vision, do you know what else can help people get behind an organizational shift?

Principles.

You need to lead with them.

When people understand who you are and what you are trying to do then they will be more likely to follow you–or maybe even help you get there.

I lead with respect.
