Connections between people can be formed and then broken.

Some bonds can weaken over time and others can strengthen. It depends partly on what you do to not only maintain them, but also nurture them.

People will often ask me, “I want to be a leader, but I’m not sure where to start.”

I tell them to start making connections with the people that are around them. Once a day, make an effort to talk to someone that they haven’t spoken to before or to someone that you haven’t talked with in awhile. The more connections you make, the larger your potential on that network. What you do with those connections is up to you.

Leading everyday is about taking the small steps to reinforce the bonds in your life. It requires effort and is sometimes not easy. The quality of the connections around you can have an impact on your career, social life, and life at home.
