The beauty of the game The Settlers of Catan is that it forces you to work with the resources around you.

You may enter the game with a general strategy, but the path to winning may change depending on how the dice are rolling and the resources you can collect to build things or buy development cards.

New players can lose themselves in a grand plan to win but miss out on opportunities to grow and build with what’s directly in front of them.

I think there’s a lesson there. Instead of stretching yourself thin working to achieve a big goal, start first with growing what you have with the people, time, and resources around you.

In doing so, you’ll build a firm foundation from which you can make the big leaps in the future.
